Ethel Klassen passed away at the Reedley, CA Hospital Feb. 2, 2019 after 100 years of a life well lived. She was born August 7, 1918 in Reedley, lived in the area until 1948 when her husband Jacob (Jack) Klassen Jr. won a homestead in a drawing for WWII veterans in northern CA’s Modoc County. They were part of the early settlement in the Tulelake community for forty years. Lifelong friendships were initiated as the Veterans raised families, shared outings, and teamed together to get it all done. Three children were born to Jack and Ethel: Kenneth of Wilmington, NC, Elaine from Placerville, CA and Howard from Tulelake (Deceased Dec. 15, 2018). Retirement years took them to Malin and Brookings. Ethel returned to Reedley and spent 20 years at the Palm Village Retirement Community where she enjoyed close friendships, frequent travels visiting family, and activities at Palm Village Retirement Center with friends. She cherished the many visits with her three children, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. At her 100th birthday party in August 2018 more than 120 friends and family celebrated her well lived life. A memorial service celebrating her life is scheduled on Feb. 20, 2019 at 2:00pm in the Reedley Palm Village Chapel.
