Pamela Brooke Melville was born January 10, 1951 in Visalia to Charles and Betty Mast. The family moved to Sacramento where Pam spent her youth before attending UC Davis and earning a BA in Economics. In 1972 she married Dale Melville; although cancer took Pam’s life, they will remain soul-mates. In 1974, Pam and Dale moved to Reedley where after Pam earned a MS in Marketing at Fresno State. Pam was the proud mother of her and Dale’s two children, Clint and Alexis, who were integral in her life as Pam was in theirs; the family was able to be at Pam’s side throughout her final week.
Pam was deeply committed to the Reedley community both in her career and volunteer activities. She taught business classes at Reedley College for 25 years, including periods as Department Head and an advisor to student clubs. Pam owned and operated two downtown business since 1980 that were a passion to her - David’s (in family since 1922) and Party Plus. The stores, staff, and customers brought great joy to Pam on a daily basis. Pam was active in leadership roles in the Reedley Downtown Association for three decades, chaired the Reedley Parks & Recreation Commission for over ten years, served as a board member for the Sierra Kings Health Care District, and hosted, sponsored and participated in a multitude of community events and fundraisers.
Over the years Pam was recognized for her many achievements, including being selected as Reedley’s Woman of the Year three times over 30 years, one of the Top 10 Professional Women by Business Journal, and, along with Dale, King and Queen and Grand Marshals of the Reedley Fiesta.
Regardless of her dedication to community, Pam always made family and friends a priority. She was a terrific cook and the consummate dinner host to friends in the Reedley area and Morro Bay. Pam enjoyed traveling with Dale, family, and friends to several destinations in Europe, North and Central America, and Asia. Time with her two grandsons was an immense delight.
Pam is survived by Dale, her husband of 45 years, son Clint Melville and his family (Jessica Payton and grandsons Mick and Leo Melville), and daughter Alexis Melville.
A private celebration of Pam’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Pam’s name to the Reedley Parks & Recreation Foundation, the Reedley Parkway Foundation, or your local non-profit organization of choice.
