The Reedley College softball Tigers took a two-game losing streak and a season record of 24-5 into a key Central Valley Conference doubleheader with co-leader College of the Sequoias on April 2.
Both the Tigers and the Giants took conference records of 11-1 into the scheduled twinbill. After meeting COS, Reedley has five more games scheduled in the upcoming week. Head Coach Kathy Kuball’s squad hosts Taft on Thursday, April 4, at 1 p.m. before a Friday, April 5, doubleheader in Aptos against Cabrillo College.
Reedley’s final regular season home games are set for Tuesday, April 9; a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Porterville College.
The Tigers did win three conference games last week, sweeping Fresno City College at home on March 26 by scores of 5-4 and 4-2 before a 13-1 road win at West Hills Coalinga on March 28.
In the opener with Fresno, Sam Lizaola tripled to score Karlie Fien with the tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Aunika Castellanos.
Reedley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game before holding off a Ram rally. Fien had two hits and scored three runs.
Emily Grimbleby went the distance on the mound in both wins.
All but one Tiger had a base hit in the Thursday win over West Hills. Castellanos led the way by driving in four runs with a home run and two singles. Grimbleby pitched four shutout innings before Amanda Beltran allowed a run in the fifth.
Reedley’s 13-game home winning streak ended March 30 with a 2-1 loss to Bakersfield. In the second game, San Joaquin Delta, ranked fourth in the state and second in Northern California, edged Reedley 2-0 as Delaney Pamplin held the Tigers to just one hit, a leadoff single in the second inning off the bat of Sandra Vallejo.
