The Reedley High boys basketball team finished the annual Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic with a 1-3 record, dropping three hard-fought games after an opening win in the Dinuba-hosted tournament ran their victory streak to three games.
The Pirates (6-4) defeated Kennedy High of Delano 62-55 on Dec. 12 at the RHS gym, and led in all portions of the three subsequent games. But the end result were losses to Central Valley Christian (61-55) at RHS on Dec. 13, Mt. Whitney (61-54) at Dinuba High on Dec. 14 and Tulare Union (49-41) at DHS on Dec. 15. In each game, the opposition held on or pulled away from a tight battle down the stretch.
Junior guard Augie Villareal scored 25 points in the loss to Central Valley Christian, but the taller Cavaliers overcame poor free throw shooting in the final quarter to hang on for the victory. Against Mt. Whitney, the Pirates came within a point but were never able to catch the Pioneers after they posted a 21-8 second quarter run.
