Twelve schools will be participating at the 76th annual Reedley Invitational Track and Field meet on Friday, April 26 at Reedley High School. Field events will begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by track events at 3:30.
The Pirates are joined in the field by local school Orange Cove along with Avenal, Caruthers, Fresno Christian, Hoover, Madera, McLane, Monache, Roosevelt, Stockdale and Sunnyside. It's Reedley's final competition before the upcoming North Yosemite League Championships on Thursday, May 2.
At 76 years, the Reedley Invitational is the second oldest regular season track and field meet in the Central Section, behind only the Kern Relays in Bakersfield.
The Pirates participated in the annual Sanger Easter Classic on April 16 at Dodson Field on the Washington Academic Middle School campus in Sanger. Athletes competed in seven varsity events; six involving the varsity girls.
Senior Maddy Gates had two top 10 finishes; fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 9 inches and seventh in the triple jump at 32-2 1/2. The RHS 4x100 relay team of Lauryn King, Trinity Toews, Emely Torres and Leslie Mendoza finished sixth in 54.85 seconds while the 4x200 relay team of Toews, Griselda Meza, Ann Burton and Sumiko Sunamoto clocked 1:55.85 for a sixth place finish.
