A two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning made the difference for the Reedley High Pirates in their baseball season opener on Feb. 8 against area rival Dinuba High.
The rally, which included an RBI from Tristin Garza, wiped out a 1-0 deficit and resulted in a 2-1 victory at RHS varsity diamond. Reedley pitcher Oscar Lemus made the lead stand up, throwing a complete game five-hitter while striking out five.
Isaiah Ochoa was the hard-luck loser for the Emperors, scattering just four hits.
Dinuba was done in defensively by four errors, and scored its lone run in the third inning when Ethan Tobias scored from third base on a sacrifice fly.
Will Gagnon had a double while Jacob Gagnon tripled for Reedley, which is scheduled to host Kingsburg at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. The game may not be played as scheduled because of predicted rain in the area into the weekend.
The Pirates also are scheduled to play a Central Valley Diamond Classic game at Sanger High at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Immanuel Tournament scheduled to open Friday
Weather permitting, the Immanuel Baseball Tournament is scheduled to begin with two games on Friday, Feb. 15. Exeter and Kerman play at 5 p.m. at Immanuel Sports Complex followed by the Eagles against Hoover of Fresno at 7:30.
