4 sprints after buntFC

Reedley High's Stephanie Castro, shown running out a bunt against Dinuba earlier this season, pitched four innings to pick up the victory against Fresno on March 26. The Pirates scored in double figures in each of their opening three North Yosemite League softball victories.

The Reedley High Pirates' bats came to life just in time for the start of North Yosemite League softball play.

The Pirates (10-6, 3-0) rang up a pair of double digit victories — 11-1 over Fresno High on March 26 and 15-0 at Roosevelt on March 29 — before heavy rain and a thunderstorm hit the city on April 2 just before the start of play at RHS varsity field against McLane. After a weather delay, the Pirates  exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to coast to a 16-1 rout of the Highlanders.

The offensive renaissance has Reedley rolling again as the team goes after a fourth consecutive league championship.

Reedley's offensive explosion against Fresno peaked in the third inning, when  the team got consecutive home runs from Jocelyn Diaz and Aryanna Gonzalez. It was a two-run homer for Diaz, who went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs. Gonzalez finished 4-for-4 and also drove in three.

Stephanie Castro worked the first four innings to pick up the pitching win, leaving with a 7-0 lead.

After scoring four runs in its final two at-bats against Fresno, Reedley blasted Roosevelt early with five runs in the first inning. They followed up with three in the second, five more in the third and two in the fourth in the game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Emma Mulligan paced the 12-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a double, while  Alexa Valdez drove in three runs and Isabella Garcia hit a two-run inside-the-park homer. Alexa Gonzalez pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts, and also went 2-for 4 at the plate.

Reedley hosts Sunnyside at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, before traveling to Fresno for its first big NYL test on Tuesday, April 9, against the Hoover Patriots. First pitch will be at 3:30 p.m.

After a home game against Roosevelt on Friday, April 12, the Pirates will participate in the Tulare Varsity Tournament on Saturday and Monday, April 13 and 15.
