That first North Yosemite League victory is proving to be elusive for the Reedley High School boys basketball team.
Opening the league campaign with Fresno schools Fresno High and Roosevelt, the Pirates were overpowered by scores of 65-44 against the Warriors on Jan. 9 at RHS gym and 70-48 by the Rough Riders in Fresno. Compounding matters, Reedley (7-9) dropped a 71-50 non-league game at home against Dinuba on Jan. 12 to run their losing streak to five straight.
The Pirates were getting a break on Jan. 16 with a home game against McLane, with RHS and Hoover the three winless teams in league. Results were unavailable at press time. The Pirates also will host Sunnyside at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. While the Wildcats are 2-0 in league, they are 5-13 overall.
The first round of NYL play closes out on Wednesday, Jan. 23 when the Pirates visit Hoover in a scheduled 6:30 p.m. start. Second round play for RHS begins on Friday, Jan. 25 in rematch against Roosevelt on Youth Night. Local youth basketball teams will be recognized at the game.
Eagles sweep pair of league games

The latter victory improved the Eagles' Central Sequoia League record to 5-0 and 12-5 overall.
Sophomore guard Shawn Rodgers led four IHS players in double figures with a game-high 27 points against Hanford West.
